August is here and September’s just around the corner. The countdown to the start of your university life has begun. You’re feeling a mixture of nerves, excitement and a real desire to take on the world.

But before you pack your suitcase, let us give you a sneak preview of exactly what moving to Canvas Student entails.

A little spoiler: this is what your new life will be like

Moving to Canvas means taking the first step towards a welcoming, unforgettable experience full of opportunities. Behind your bedroom door, a world of possibilities awaits you. This is where you come to bring out the best in yourself.

Imagine a typical day: your alarm goes off at 7am and you head down to the gym. Starting the morning with a good workout fills you with energy and puts you in the right frame of mind to tackle your classes. When you get back from uni, you’ll find a space designed down to the last detail just for you. You can relax on the sofa with your favourite TV series, concentrate fully in the study rooms, or head out to the communal areas to meet your new best friends.

You set the pace. Match with other residents, organise the trip of the year or put on a film night. Our facilities are amazing, and every corner has been designed for you to enjoy. Canvas is where it all starts, your way.

The ultimate checklist for a perfect landing

To ensure a smooth arrival, we’ve put together this list of everything you need to sort out before leaving home. Go over these points and travel with complete peace of mind:

1. Essential paperwork and formalities (the boring but vital stuff)

  • Valid National Identity Card, Foreigner Identification Number or passport.
  • University enrolment documents.
  • Confirmation of your booking at Canvas Student.
  • Health card, health insurance or European Health Insurance Card.
  • Keep your bank details to hand in case of any last-minute arrangements.

2. Your tech setup all sorted

  • Laptop and chargers.
  • Headphones with good noise cancellation for your marathon sessions in the study room.
  • Plug adaptors if you’re from another country.
  • A hard drive or external storage device for backing up your work.

3. Clothes and wardrobe essentials

  • The first few weeks of the school year are usually warm, but autumn comes quicker than you think. Pack some light clothing and bring a jacket or two for the change of season.
  • Sportswear and trainers so you can make the most of the in-house gym.
  • Extra hangers to keep your clothes neatly organised in your wardrobe.

4. A personal touch for your space

  • Your room at Canvas Student comes fully furnished and ready to move into: a super-comfortable bed, private bathroom in perfect condition, utilities and high-speed Wi-Fi. All that’s missing is your essence.
  • Bring photos of your family, friends or your pet to decorate your study area and feel at home.
  • Don’t forget that favourite mug for your morning coffee.
  • A special blanket or some cushions to add a splash of colour to your bed and feel right at home straight away.

5. An open-minded attitude and desire to meet people

  • This is the most important requirement. Come with an open mind.
  • Take part in the welcome events.
  • Introduce yourself to your neighbours – they’re just as nervous as you are.

Check off this list a couple of times, pack your suitcase and take a deep breath. The best phase of your life is about to begin. If you still have any questions or would like to find out more about the services on offer, have a look at the Canvas website and discover everything that’s in store.
