Life in a hall of residence: February's community activities at Canvas World

February’s a strange month in the university calendar: first term exams have been and gone, classes start up again and the calendar is full of key dates such as Valentine's Day and Carnival.

At Canvas World we know that life in a hall of residence is much more than library hours. It's about sharing, disconnecting and building memories. That’s why, during the month of February, our halls of residence in Sabadell, Seville and Pamplona have been filled with community activities for students.

Here’s a summary of what we’ve experienced together.

Renewal month: a raffle in style

February was been the month in which many of you have decided to stay with us for another year. To reward this loyalty, we organised an exclusive weekly draw (every Thursday) for residents who have renewed their place.

The prizes were well worth it: we started by raffling Marshall headphones, followed by a Polaroid camera, then JBL speakers (which in Sabadell we changed for a super travel suitcase, ideal for international students) and ended with a spectacular final prize: an iPad with Apple Pencil!

Pamplona: creativity, festival fusion and lots of cuisine

At Canvas Pamplona Plazaola, February had a very creative and tasty touch:

• 4 February - "Decorate your scarf" workshop: we started the month with an activity to customise scarves, a nice gesture of support and awareness to bring out the more artistic side of our residents.
• 12 February - Festival of San Carnavalín: Why choose between Valentine's Day and Carnival when you can have both? We organised a joint celebration full of costumes, love and good vibes.

 

Seville: love, sport and Andalusian pride

At Canvas Sevilla Lago, we combined key dates in the calendar with healthy living:

• 14 February - Valentine's Day letterbox: on the day of love (and friendship) we filled the residence with themed decorations and set up a letterbox for residents to leave surprise messages.
• 26 February - Andalusia Day: we celebrated the day of our homeland early at a party with plenty of good food, music and the traditional rebujito.
• 27 February - Table tennis tournament: we ended the month by burning calories and showing who has the best reflexes in a hard-fought table tennis tournament.

 

Sabadell: sweetness, international culture and lots of pink

Our community at Canvas Sabadell Llac didn't stop for a second with a super international agenda:

• 11 February - Love Post-its Wall: we created a giant collaborative mural where everyone could leave positive messages and encouragement for each other.
• 13 February - Chocolate Fondue: the perfect prelude to Valentine's Day. We gathered in the common areas to enjoy a chocolate fondue with fruit and marshmallows. A big hit!
• 17 February - Chinese New Year: at Canvas we celebrate diversity, so we welcomed the Chinese New Year with craft workshops and classic fortune cookies.
• 18 February - Red Pink Party: our very own Carnival was tinged with passion. We organised a theme party where the only requirement was to come in costume or dressed in red and pink.

 

In short, February has once again shown us that the Canvas World student halls of residence are living spaces, where every week there’s a new excuse to get out of your room, meet your neighbours and have a great time. Ready for all that's to come in March?
